Why do teens need Turning Points?

Most teens face life’s challenges with the knowledge that they are supported and cared for at home. However, many do not have a supportive home. Many face threats of physical or sexual abuse, alcohol or drug abuse, neglect or abandonment. In these situations teens can find help through Turning Points.

This Supported Independent Living program offers accommodation, advocacy, and supervision to teens that cannot, and often should not, live at home. Since 1985 assistance is provided to help the teens develop life skills that lead to self-reliant and positive, independent lifestyles.

Our staff is well trained to help teens with various life-skills such as decision making, personal health, money management, parenting skills, and conflict resolution.

Types of Graduated Accommodation

Bearpaw
Teens live in short-term accommodation that offers a supportive environment in which to build upon their abilities to live independently. Bearpaw consists of furnished suites in an apartment building, which encourages hands-on learning through the support of a transitional support worker, live-in worker and life skills coach.

Brownstone
Each teen has their own suite in an apartment building operated by the program. The teens have access to support from on-site transitional support workers and a live-in worker while they continue to enhance and learn valuable skills necessary for independence.

Individual Accommodation
Teens reside in their own apartment in the community assuming responsibility for all aspects of the residence. The focus is on implementing the skills they acquired while living in the Bearpaw or Brownstone residence
