Christmas is an exciting time for most people. And those of us at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edmonton are no exception. From our youngest members to teenagers, and front line staff to administration, everyone gets into the spirit.
Making the season special for those who may have less to celebrate is one of the roles that Boys & Girls Clubs of Edmonton takes very seriously. With support from our donors, Kyland Investment Management, the Christmas Bureau, Santa’s Anonymous and many others in the community, each of the Clubs meets the need within their own neighbourhoods: community dinners, special outings, opportunities for parents and staff to meet and get to know each other, making and receiving Christmas goodies, decorating and, of course, a visit from Santa. Just take a look:
"We had one family that is going through some tough times. They came to the Christmas dinner and during the gift giving a staff was approached by the mother who said that if it was not for this Christmas dinner they would not be having a Christmas dinner at all "- Club Co-ordinator
"We decided to do something different this year so we went to Let’s Play Indoor Playground. The kids had a blast! They ran and jumped and slid all afternoon at the playground. They had a nice lunch and also got to play a fun game of Laser Tag. It was an ‘active’ party and the kids got to run-off all of their excitement. The afternoon ended with the kids all opening their Christmas presents and then boarding the bus to go back to the Club. Thank you so much! Without your generosity we wouldn’t have been able to make this such a special day for everyone!" - Laurie, Club Coordinator
"I really liked the pizza this year, even if it was healthy" - Abby, aged 7
"Many of the presents bought with the Christmas Bureau money were clothing items that were much needed." - Jenn, staff
